WTC 2025

The WTC is the highlight of my year, and we spend about six months preparing, theory building lists, shadowboxing matchups, and just generally playing the broken stuff in the game to have a just a tiny little shot at winning the event. This year my team went with Inhumans, Apocalypse, Shadowlands, Wakanda and Storm. 

If you're not dropped behind a rock you know that I'm the Inhumans player and the biggest advantage of our team was that I was the best Inhumans player going to the event. One of the weaknesses of our team was that we didn't have a dedicated avengers player in our team but such is life. 

List

At the WTC you can't duplicate characters so my list looked a bit different than usual. I lost toad to our Apocalypse player, which meant I'm not in need of Voodoo since he's useless without a safe grab of the middle, which Toad provides. Therefore I put in Black Widow since her stealth means she's semisafe at taking a senator and the only threat level I was in need of a two was 19 which is Senators for me. Hela is the only four and she's there in case I get forced to play 18 which only can happen on mutant madmen, where her short walk ability makes it impossible to body block her off a flip and on inhuman weapons she can "safe" grab if the opponent has picked up one thing. Which is another 18 option where I could play her. Spoiler alert, I didn't play her or Quicksilver this weekend.

But with those switches my list is just the same way as it always is.

Game 1

We get matched with Team NYC, I got their kingpin player, he wins prio and picks his extracts. He pulls Terrigen Canisters and I get Cosmic Invasion. I pick 16 threat and my opponent fields Kingpin, Mephisto, Loki2 and Bullseye. 

He deploys bullseye to pick up one cannister but he fails a bit at deploying Kingpin to get the other one smoothly, while Mephisto and Loki is deployed in the middle to threaten everything. 

While I deploy Doggo and Black Bolt on one side and Karnak, Miles and Black Widow on the other flank. 


He starts with Bullseye, picks up his home and goes stands on his back point.

Doggo ports up Black Bolt and picks up a thing, while passing Black Bolt a power.

Loki moves up Mephisto with go forth and double runs to the left side.

Black Widow picks up a thing, gets poisioned but runs back to her point anyway. 

My opponent passes

Karnak walks up, meditates and gives a power to Miles.

Kingpin walks up, but since he was deployed incorrectly he doesn't get to a position where he can pick up and still get to the point, so he just waddles around a bit.

Then Miles jumps up, walks and kicks Kingpin, not getting the wild but getting 2 damage.

Mephisto walks forward and tries to lucky spike Black Bolt but does no damage and picks up the middle as his consolation prize.  

So Black Bolt does a spender into Mephisto and tosses him backwards threading the needle perfectly to hit Bullseye behind his wall, where bullseye rolls no blocks and just dies. Then black Bolt puts a builder into Mephisto and daze him as well.

Making this a disaster turn for my opponent. Walking up inside of 3 of Black Bolt was brave and it backfired hard. Ending the turn 6-2 in my favour.


Mephisto wakes up pissed and dazes Black Bolt.

Miles steals from Kingpin doing another couple of points of damage and walks outside of 2 but still on the point.

Kingpin walks up, does a slap into Miles doing a couple of points of damage and pushing him off the point.

So Karnak walks up and tries to roll a wild to get the push on Kingpin but rolls hot and dazes him instead.

Loki 2 double runs to my back point to be in the fight a bit more.

Black Widow now runs away from Loki and within 2 of the dog.

Bullseye walks up and picks up the extract on the ground.

Dog double walks over to the point that Loki2 left and the round ends, Ending the turn 4-5 for a 10-7 round.


Black Bolt wakes up and uses the Great Refuge to place himself in a good position then Beams Bullseye and Mephisto. Killing Bullseye and doing a couple of points of damage into Mephisto, who is the finished off with a builder. 

Realizing he has lost the opponent double jogs Kingpin to pick up the extract dropped by Bullseye.

So dog stands still

Loki then walks up and tries to kill Miles but fails. 

So I spread people out on points for a 8-1 round and the game is over at 18-8 

A very brave turn 1 from my opponent backfired hard, even harder than I wished for, but such is the game sometimes. 

Game 2

Game two we get matched against the Belgian team Crisis Protocol A-holes. I don't want my team to have to face something as broken as Inhumans so I pick their Inhumans player, Tom, to play against.

He gets priority and picks his extracts, got senators and I pulled super powered scoundrels. Our lists were pretty identical so I went for the 19 threat plan since I'm most comfortable with it. My opponent Flips over exactly the same characters and 4 of the same tactics cards but instead of Brace he plays Recall.





With priority he walks up Karnak on his back point and give away some power.

I give one power to dog and he teleports up Black Bolt and himself and picks up a senator.

My opponent does exactly the same thing.

Now it's time for me to walk up karnak and give away power to Ms Marvel.

Black Widow walks up and picks up a senator and stands on a point. With the power passing he turns on A Better Tomorrow.

Then my Black Widow can't stand on a point since the house is in the way so she just picks up a senator and hopes for the best. With the power passing I turn on A Better Tomorrow.

His Ms Marvel then jumps up but since he had deployed her too far to the left he can't reach my Black Widow so he has to walk up and punch her, but the dice are kind so he oneshots her. With the power passing he gives Miles a power.

So then my Ms Marvel that is deployed correctly turns big and punches his Ms Marvel, putting her in the dirt in two attacks. With the power passing I give Miles a power.

Then his Black Bolt walks up and one taps my Ms Marvel, and I'm starting to sweat a bit. These are some hot dice for my opponent. 

My Miles jumps up, does a damage to Karnak gets the wild, so I walk over to his point.

My opponent uses The Great Refuge to get Karnak back on the point, then his Miles jumps up and kicks my Black Bolt, getting no damage but getting the wild to toss me away on the second attack.

So my Black Bolt walks up and puts 2 damage into his Doggo. Ending the turn 4-5.   


His Ms Marvel puts two attacks into my Miles and gets him low so Terrigenesis can finish him, and picks up his senator.

Then my Ms Marvel does the same to his Ms Marvel but I don't want to turn her into a target so I drop the senator towards my Karnak.

His Doggo is scared so he moves over to his back point. 

My Karnak activates, and I use The Great Refuge to move Black Bolt and Ms Marvel to safety. While Karnak moves forward to pick up the senator on the floor and then climb backwards to hide behind the building. 

His Black Widow runs away from my Black Bolt to the middle.

My Doggo teleports my Black Bolt up to his doggo. 

His Karnak picks up a senator on the floor and stands there.

My Black Bolt finishes his doggo and gets a Senator. 

Then his Black Bolt walks and does a spender into my doggo to toss him off the point and standing there. 

My Black Widow has nothing fun to do so she walks up to the middle and tosses a 4 dice yellow into his Black Widow doing a damage.

That ends the turn  7-6 for a 11-11 game. So it's even and I've KO'ed Ms Marvel, so it's a really good position for me. 

He starts with his Karnak, hitting Miles twice but his dice have turned cold so he doesn't get the KO.

Then Ms Marvel tosses Black Bolt into a wall, and pummels him with two attacks and gets him with Terrigenesis so the game is more or less over once I get that daze. 

His doggo tries to hailmary daze Black Bolt, but does 1 damage in total.

Then my doggo teleports to his point, freeing Black Bolt to do things and tells his Black Widow that she smells.

He jumps Miles over and hail marry tries to kill Black Bolt again but once again only gets a couple of points.

My Black Widow puts two now 5 dice yellow into his Ms Marvel.

Then my Miles steals the senator from Karnak and gets the wild to kick him off the point. 

Ending the turn 10-1. and the game ends 21-12



Tom was a great sport but yeah he didn't have the same amount of experience as me in the mirror, his deployment wasn't optimal especially where he placed Ms Marvel and Black Bolt in a position where he had to walk turn one. Meaning he did 3-4 less attacks than me. Then using The Great Refuge to tie one point wasn't a great usage of that card. Finally he had to activate first with his Black Bolt because the risk of him dying was way too big against Ms Marvel. 

Game 3

Game 3 we got the Icelandic team and once again I want Inhumans so we engineered the pairing where I got the mirror.

This time I got prio so I pick my secures, and get Riot, while my opponent pulls Senators. Which is a great pull for me since their Inhumans player wasn't allowed to have Miles and therefore couldn't do the same amount of shenanigans as I could. 


So instead he plays tall with Red Skull 2, Okoye, Medusa, Doggo, Black Bolt and then Red Skull2 grunts over there.


I start with Doggo who steals a power from Karnak and sends up himself and Black Bolt, and picks up a senator.

His doggo does the same thing with a power from Medusa.

Meaning he places his Black Bolt inside of 4 of mine, so I just double tap him, doing 0 damage and he wasn't even boosting his defences. I felt the tilt start to seep into my blood.

Then he double walks the grunts up to the point and Red Skull2 double walks forward and picks up a senator. 

I meditate with Karnak and stand on the back point, feeding power to Miles.

He double walks Medusa and picks up my Senator with a power from Black Bolt. 

So I run Black Widow to the right point.

Then Black Bolt walks up, one taps my Black Widow and picks up a senator. The rage is really flowing in my veins at this point.

So Ms Marvel says it's a better tomorrow and puts two attacks into  his Black Bolt. Totalling 1 damage, and I'm not angry anymore, I just want to curl up into ball and cry my way home. 

His Okoye runs up behind the doggo.

Miles goes and jumps to the point then tosses 2 attacks into Red Skull 2, getting 3 damage into him and a toss into the doggo for 2 more.

Meaning the round ends 4-6 and I've done 7 damage with 6 attacks and my opponent has done 4 damage with 1 attack. I was ready to pack up my stuff, go home and drown my sorrows in a tub of ice cream. 


His Red Skull 2 activates and the grunts do 3 damage into Black Widow, but in two counterstrikes she does 3 damage killing them in revenge. Then Red Skull2 puts an counting blank attack into Doggo, but now it's my opponents time to have cold dice, so doggo takes 2 damage. Then he decides it's not worth it to attack again and stand in the danger zone so he walks back to his back point and heals for 1. He then gives a power to Medusa from Black Bolt

I double move Black Widow to my back point and heal twice so she's on 1 damage, then she also passes a power to Ms Marvel.

Medusa hits Black Bolt for no damage but with a second stolen power she tosses my Black Bolt out of range and walks over to the right point.

My doggo moves himself to the point and moves up my Black Bolt inside of 4 of Red Skull 2.

His doggo activates and moves Black Bolt to in range of my Black Bolt and himself back to his back point. 

Ms Marvel has had enough so she turns big and does 3 damage to Black Bolt in 2 attacks. Then with how the dice have been going this game, 11/16 is good enough odds for me. So I Terrigenesis him on 2 and get it. 

His Okoye takes a pot shot into my Black Bolt for 2 damage then walks backwards and stands in position to protect her friends. 

Black Bolt shoots into Red Skull 2 and Okoye takes the hit dazing her, then Black Bolt shoots into Red Skull again doing a couple of points of damage.

Then Miles jumps up does the 2 damage needed to daze Red Skull and picks up his senator and walks away.

Finally Karnak walks up and meditates to make sure he can give all my important models counting skulls the next turn. 

Meaning the turn ends 8-4 for an 12-10 game.The cold dice picked up a bit but yeah my opponent was brave with his Black Bolt placement again. This time he was punished for it.


Same turn again to show Black Widow chilling which was invisible in the last picture. 


So evil Black Bolt jumps up with The Great Refuge and screams into good Black Bolt, doing no damage but one tapping the doggo. Then the second shot dealt 3 damage into Black Bolt. 

Since I'm ahead on points and holding more of the Extracts my opponent has to come to me, so I just double run Black Widow to pick up the senator dropped by the dog.

Red Skull 2 walks up and does the spender into Miles. Which does 3 damage but he doesn't roll the wild and it's all good.

Miles kicks Red Skull to see if I can toss him but I don't get it so I just walk back to the point and heal myself. 

His Doggo Moves up Okoye and give extra dice to attacks against Black Widow. 

Karnak walks back to his point and give some power to Ms Marvel. 

Okoye walks up and does a spender into Black Widow, but Black Bolt body guards it and takes no damage. Meaning he has to just Terrigenesis for 4 and we don't live in the 1/16 realities where that works. 

Medusa can't affect the scoring in anyway so she just stands on her point.

Ms Marvel killed Okoye on her way to try and contest his back point but didn't reach all the way there since I was too cowardly when I placed her the turn before. 

For a 6-4 turn. Meaning the game ends 18-14


The dice really turned cold for me the first turn, and I felt like everything was threatening to come tumbling down around me, but my opponent took a lot of risks in his play which then eventually got punished when his defensive dice turned cold. 

Game 4

Then we were up against the 'murican team Pork Roll Protocol. Once again I don't want my team to face Inhumans so I give them the option of the mirror, which they take.

I win Prio, pick my secures and get super powered scoundrel. My opponent pulls spider infected and picks 20 threat. Which I think is a mayor mistake with his list since he doesn't have the tools to go wide. 


So he plays Doggo, Nick Fury, Black Bolt, Medusa and Voodoo.

While I play Doggo, Gorgon, Black Bolt, Miles, Gwen and Karnak. 




I start the game with Doggo moving up Black Bolt, and then walking to pick up a spider and stand on the point.

The grunts walk up, pick up a spider and then walk backwards towards the table edge. Then Nick picked up the other home extract for him.

So my Karnak walks up, meditates, picks up a spider and gives a power to Gwen.

His doggo then walks onto the point and teleports Black Bolt, but he's cautious enough to not place himself inside of 4 of my Black Bolt. He passes a power to Medusa.

Gorgon then double walks to the middle and picks up the extract, being brave. 

Medusa walks up, steals a power from doggo then walks to the middle and tosses Gorgon to the waiting arms of his Black Bolt.

So my Black Bolt uses The Great Refuge to jump to the middle and does a couple of points of damage to Medusa with two builders.

Evil Black Bolt then tries to shoot Gorgon but a king is for his people so good Black Bolt takes the hits and with 6 defensive dice and cover there's not a lot happening. 

Miles then walks and jumps to the middle and kicks Medusa to daze her turn 1. 

Voodoo walks up to his back point to stop the threat of Gwen stealing his back point.

So Gwen just double walk over to my other side to threaten life savers on the start of the next turn.

Ending the turn 6-4


The spiders move Nick Fury off to the edge of the table, but otherwise everyone stands still. 



So Medusa has a lot of power to burn, she royal decrees up Voodoo, then uses him to jump on, and she stands on the middle, she starts hitting Gorgon, but Gwen life savers him so Black Bolt is the next target and she only does 2 damage whit two attacks which leaves Black Bolt on 1. 

My Black Bolt shoots into Voodoo twice and does 4 damage.

Voodoo then walks up and possesses Karnak, but since he walks exactly 3 away instead of inside five inches he has to walk again to be able to pick up the dropped extract. Meaning he can't run away. 

My doggo ports Gorgon to safety and gives more power to Gwen. 

His doggo move up and ports forward his Black Bolt. 

Karnak walks up and puts the last 2 damage into Voodoo, picking back up his extract. Which was a mistake since I underestimated his damage potential with Black Bolt.

So his Black Bolt did a spender into Gwen, doing 4 damage then the normal gun putting her down. I didn't forsee him going after Gwen in that position and I should've activated her first so that she could've for example pulled off the doggo and stood on the middle to keep me safer. 

The grunts double walked back towards Nick, who walked up and shot Karnak but he doesn't do any damage and gets called a weakling.

So Miles jumps and kicks the grunt for 2 damage. They then drop their extract in a position where I can't reach it so I walk to the point with Nick. 

Finally to stop the bleeding of the first activation next turn Gorgon charges into Black Bolt and stuns him with a builder, then I do the yellow attack and don't get the shock. 

Meaning the turn ends 6-2 for a  12-6 game.  


Just another angle of the table


The epic fight between Husband and Wife.


So Jian goes into the tank hard. The game will probably be over this turn unless he has a very good turn.

So Voodoo starts and does an attack into Karnak, doing 3 damage and tossing him into the middle objective, where Medusa Terrigenesis him. Then he spenders into Miles and one Shots him.


Which was a good start but that means my gorgon gets to daze his Black Bolt.

Medusa then finishes off my Black Bolt.

Nick Fury drops down some agents to pick up a thing and stands on a point.

Then Gwen just double walks over to my back point.

His doggo Jumps forward and needs to do 6 damage with a 4 dice attack to keep the game happening and well it doesn't.

So the game ends 16-12 


Gwen is a super star on Super Powered Scoundrels and I don't think going tall is the answer in the mirror. It was also a big mistake to leave Voodoo in a position where I could walk and punch him. If he was an inch further forward he could've been out of range of that. Meaning Karnak can't take back his extract in the same way.

But we went 2-3 as a team and we got knocked out of the finals. 

Game 5

So game five we get the Canada team, Canada Beavers, which didn't have an Inhumans player so I could face anything in this team. Some of our players didn't feel that practiced into Weapon X, so I took that list because I knew I was going to steamroll it. 


I won prio and picked my extracts getting Spider Infected, my opponent pulled M'Kraan and picked 19 threat. 

My opponent did the super wide thing with Weapon X the man, Rocket, X-23, Zemo, Honey Badger, Domino and Maverick.


I use doggo to port up Black Bolt and flip a point and pick up a spider.

My opponent bravely runs up Zemo to the middle.

Karnak then walks up and flips a point and picks up, while giving a power to Miles.

Rocket walks up and picks up an extract.

Then Miles jumps forward. kicks Zemo and random spikes to daze him, and walks up to pick up his extract.

So Honey Badger walks up inside of 3 of X-23

Black Bolt uses The Great refuge and does 2 damage into Rocket. So then the second shot goes into Honey Badger and I randomly spike and one shot her. So then I terrigenesis Rocket and pick up his extract.

Maverick walks up and flips a point.

Black Widow runs around and gives a power to Gorgon.

X-23 durdles around

Then Gorgon walks up, and charges into a beam position where he can get both Domino and Maverick, and just random spikes into Maverick doing 4 damage and shocking him while I do nothing into Domino but still shocking her. 

Weapon X the man flips his other home point.

Ending the turn 8 - 3. My dice just decided that I wanted to win this game. 


For the Spiders Miles and Doggo Moves


Black Bolt starts and with two spenders and puts down Zemo, doing some good damage into Honey Badger in the process.

Rocket tries to kill Miles but the dice said no. 

Miles then Jumps backwards, Kicks Honey Badger killing her and then walking back behind a size 4 house. 

Domino shuck her shock and shot into Gorgon for a couple of points of damage.

So Gorgon hit Domino deliberately keeping her alive and low for the next turn. 

X-23 has nothing fun to do so she walks over to flip a point. 

Doggo then walks over and bites her doing 3 damage, and of course flipping the point over her.

Then Weapon X, double walks over to the doggo and fails his 50/50

Maverick shot Gorgon for no damage, then did a spender and didn't get the trigger. 

So Karnak walked up and meditated. in a position where his skulls might be good next turn.

Finally Black Widow ran over and failed to flip the point.


Ending the round 5-4 for a 13-7 game.


My opponent needs a big round. So X-23 tries to kill Black Bolt but does no damage. So she walks over and tries to flip the point under Karnak but fails. 

So Gorgon kills Maverick and dazes Domino. 

Then Weapon X the man dazes the doggo.

Finally Black Bolt kills Rocket.

I want to end the game there but my opponent wants to see how much I can score in 3 turns so I flip all the points and pick up all the objectives. Meaning I score 8-1 for a 21-8 finish.


Weapon X doesn't have the tools really to fight against Inhumans. They're a bunch of cool dudes doing stuff but they just die way too quick because they have no power to do cool stuff turn 1. Then my dice just decided that they wanted to roll all successes this game. So I felt bad for my opponent.

After the game my opponent told me he had 4 practice games into Inhumans and he didn't understand what all the whining was about but now he gets it. 

Conclusions

So I went 5-0 at the WTC and my team went 4-1. I did my job in the team, we were favoured in ever pairing process and no one but me in our team had to face Inhumans but we lost as a team. 

Even if you win all your games it's not always good enough in a team format. Sometimes you have to also take rougher matchups. My Strength of Schedule was very low, so I've been stomping some less experienced players during the event. 

Maybe I should've trusted my teammates to beat the less experienced Inhumans players and instead gone after who we thought was the best player in the opponent team. 

I hope they nerf Inhumans HARD and I hope they do it soon, because this wasn't very fun. The Great Refuge turns every game to incredible samey, Black Bolt jumps up and double taps someone and most of the time the game is over there since his dice are that good and you can just run away with the game from that daze. It's a big problem that he reaches every point anywhere on the table and it's too easy to do. 

Still even if the games weren't the most exciting, the experience was and always will be amazing. All my opponents were great sports and we were cracking jokes as we played.. 

There are definitely three tiers of teams, you have the top teams, then the dark horses and the teams that just go there to have fun. Which makes for an awesome atmosphere and every year you have a miracle run from some team. Like Portugal losing to Italy round one and then beating their way up to a sixth spot. 

Next year the event will be in Amsterdam and if it's the same place as the Warmachine and Hordes WTC it will be awesome. So I hope to see you all there.
