WTC 2024
Intro
My standard disclaimer. It was a while since I played these games. My memory isn't perfect. There might be some details that are wrong. Especially when I forgot to take images. If you're one of my opponents and I got something wrong please reach out and I will fix it. Also thanks to all of my opponents for great competitive games. I had so much fun at the WTC.
The WTC is the Worlds Teams Championships of Marvel Crisis Protocol, held in Copenhagen, Denmark and my teammates and I had the fortune to win it last year so we were going back as the defending champions.
Being the defending champions sucks. When we went there the first time no one expected anything from us but this year everyone knew we were one of the teams to beat. Luckily I wasn't alone, we had 6 teams representing Sweden.
The Hotel the tournament was held in was large and there were some aggressive AC to keep the playing hall a good temperature. The only real problem I heard people talk about was expensive beer and I don't drink, so lot my problem.
Lists
The WTC is a team tournament and characters are not to be allowed to be repeated over the team. Which means that you have to fit together leaders into making a team. Especially the two threats are a problem to make fit.
In MCP there are currently about 55 leaders you can play. Out of them about half of them are viable choices to play in a team tournament.
My practice started during the summer, where I started by building rosters for 25 leaders, but it became 20 because of dual affiliations.
Then I whittled down those 20 different potential rosters to 5. The short list for me of the five best factions were, Avengers, Webs, X-men/X-force, Shield and Cabal/Black Order.
For me Cabal and Black Order was the first choice and what I brought to nations a team tournament in England with good results, but I couldn't play that because Anders best results were with Cabal. David was playing X-men so that cut down all my X-men, X-force and Weapon X choices. Björn was playing Inhumans and they're a faction you need to put in the reps to get good at, so I avoided them. Finally Hugo was playing Spider-Foes which felt weak to me but he was performing well with them.
So Webs were the only really top affiliation left for me to practice, but then I lost 20 games in a row with them while practicing for Multiverse in June, and performed poorly in the tournament as well. So after that I decided on practicing more with Avengers and Shield. In my early practice Avengers felt stronger but Shield had that magic thing where it was my fault when I lost, so I could just keep getting better as I practiced more and more.
I felt pretty comfortable in my role then Miniestravaganza hit and all of a sudden everything was in chaos. The Rhino nerf hurt Spider Foes while the removal of Smash ruined Inhumans. Which meant two players looked for a new home. Björn jumped to Avengers and Hugo to Shield. All of a sudden I was homeless again.
So I started playing around with different alternatives but nothing really felt top tier. So instead I pushed Björn towards Asgard and took back Sam.
Then a week before the list lock the Asgard nerf hit and Björn wasn't feeling like playing Asgard anymore. Which meant he needed a new home and Midnight Sons was his new choice. That meant my roster lost Iron Fist and Voodoo, which were two key pieces for me against X-men.
This is the brief version of our list chaos, at one point we had five different combinations of lists in our spreadsheet.
But yeah in the end my characters were:
The way I play Sam is a bit different from everyone else. I love playing two beaters and Ironman for Ricochet Blast and Helios.
Hulk is by far the best character in the game for his threat. His throw is just too cheap and 20 health is too much for people to burn through it in 4 rounds if you put him somewhere safeish.
King T has the highest damage output in the five slot and is just better than Cable.
The Black Widow is there to dive other peoples f's if I have to do that on for example Cubes against X-men but is definitely a cuttable character
Shang-chi is a tech piece to deal with Webs and HFC. Sadly his damage output isn't good enough for the kind of game I want to play and I don't have any of the synergy to make him work.
Ironman is the star player, him and Sam is in every roster always. I normally play both his tactics cards to slam the door in the opponents face turn 3-4 and win the game with a big score.
Luke Cage is the 3 you put in on 20 threat but is definitely cuttable.
Red Skull2 is the highest damage out put in the five slot. 6 dice counting blanks averages 5 hits and he often cuts himself turn 1 which Sam leadership then can heal. He also has extra synergy in the fact that he's range 3 with no movement so you can place him safely and then if they daze something you get to kill something back since the leadership is so good on him.
Shuri is there to let me play King T leadership on 15 and because her rerolls are very valuable on Red Skull 2 on certain 18 and 19 setups but definitely the most cuttable character.
Okoye is the best two for Sam, and makes it in on 19 which is an very important point total against fighting team since generally 3 of their scenarios are 19 in Intrusions, Deadly Legacy and Demons Downtown.
All in all this roster is designed to beat up Asgards and Cabal players, because that's what our team was weak against. While it's a bit weaker against Webs and X-Men than I would like with the lack of Voodoo and Ironfist.
I've heard Hugo say that we didn't bring Webs because everyone would tech for them, and the real reason is that Specky is needed in Shield, and then it's better to spread out the steals to several factions instead of having them all in webs. Also I'm the webs player and I was crushed out of playing them.
Game 1
Game 1 we drew Irish Bones. Which had Myk, my teammate from Nations, where we got second place.
No one in the team really wanted to face X-Force, because they just roll dice and it's scary to play against. Luckily my list is designed to take that.
He wins prio, picks his secures, gets Gamma, I get Paranioa and pick 16 threat. My standard team on 16 is Sam, Ironman, King T and Redskull2
Then I grab the left middle with Ironman and stand in cover.
Thereafter Psylocke picks up the right one.
I don't really feel safe to pick up the last one and stand out in the open against Cable, so Sam walks up and throws a shield into him, which does a damage and pushes him backwards.
Cable then places himself back and pops shots into ironman, doing 4 damage and dazing him. Which triggers my leadership and I move up King T.
Then Red Skull feels safe to walk up and pick up the Paranioa.
Then Dynamo walks up shoots Sam and does a damage before he jumps forward and picks up the Paranioa dropped by Sam.
This leaves King T with 4 Power and moved up a short from the back. So I avengers Assemble, then bound forward. Pull Cable of his back point before I just walk over and take it.
Ending the round with a 6-3 and my opponent having taken a lot of damage on all his characters.
Cable starts the turn, and lays into King T, but his attacks don't do enough and Brace keeps King T safe from the throw. My counter strikes leaves Cable on 1.
King T tries to kill Dynamo but fails, at least I get the throw so I get him away from my team.
Then Dynamo places back and shoots Ironman and dazes Sam, which lets Ironman heal and move slightly onto the point. Then the second beam puts back the shock onto Ironman.
Ironman shakes Shock and pushes away X-23.
X-23 double walks back into the game.
Red Skull Ends Dynamo and gets back his Paranoia.
Finally Psylocke walks over to stop me from scoring his back gamma again.
Which ends the turn 11-6
I then start the turn by using Ricochet Blast on x-23 and Helios laser on Psylocke, which gets the sweeping clear and dazes Cable.
So Dynamo jumps to the middle and tries to kill everyone, but only gets Ironman.
So I pick up all the stuff and end the game 19-7. Which somehow is reported at 21-7. Those damn Irish cheating for my extra VP's :D
This game really highlights why I love Sam so much. My opponent started the game by spiking hard, and then I use that to my advantage where I take the back home Gamma.
Game 2
Second game we were up against the French Gambit and I got their Thanos player, who was playing Cabal/Hydra Thanos. My opponent got prio and picked his secures and got Deadly Meteors. I pulled senators. I picked 17 threat because my opponent didn't have Bullseye which meant the 17 was weak. Then my opponent threw a wrench in my plan and picked to play Hydra. Still a great matchup for me.
My normal 17 is Sam Ironman Hulk and Red skull. The French always have gorgeous models so I took an extra shot sadly it didn't focus that well.
My opponent started with Thanos, double moving forward and then moving Hulk away. A move I'm very fond of but damn does it suck when it happens to you, Then he used the space stone to move backwards and pick up a senator and flip the middle, which he failed and rolled a skull.
This meant I had no threat on me. So I just double ran Ironman up and picked up his senator.
Evil grunts flipped his meteor.. His redskull picked up a senator.
Good grunts flipped my meteor and Redskull walked up and hit his Redskull for 3 damage and danced away with the move trigger.
His Modok just double walked and picked up a senator.
Sam then walked up, picked up a senator and tossed a shield into thanos who bounced into redskull but didn't do any damage. Still 2 free power.
My last Sad activation with Hulk was to just double walk towards the middle.
Ending the round 3-4
He opens up with his grunts shooting my Red Skull, but cover and 5 dice against yellow keeps me safe.
Then he walks up with Redskull and does a death decreeed attack resulting in 7 skulls and 1 hit.
Sam shoots into Modok, which he passes off to the Grunts, which was my original target anyway and in two shots I kill the Grunts.
Then Modok just puts five damage into Hulk to build power.
Good Grunts double walks to the middle but fails to flip it. Then Good Redskull puts down Evil Redskull and I get over to his point and flip that.
Thanos then kills the grunts and puts a spender into Ironman before he moves hulk further away.
Hulk double walks to the middle. Tosses away Thanos before he flips and picks up a Senator, and jumps backwards to the cover of the truck.
Lastly Ironman tries to push Thanos further away but doesn't get the wild on 12 dice.
Meaning I hold 4 things and have all 3 traps. For 10-6
Evil Redskull dazes good Red Skull, takes his Senator and flips the point.
Hulk takes the leadership, and tries to assassinate Modok by tossing him into the grunts, so that once they're dead I can double tap Modok but then the grunts block 2 on their 1 defense dice so I can't kill modok. Frustrated Hulk just stomps the grunts into the ground before he walks over and flips the trap back
My opponent was caught of guard by the early Avengers Assemble play and had plans for Shang Chi killing Luke Cage, but I would still have been up 5-3 that turn so that wasn't really where the game went wrong for my opponent. His strange getting pushed by the objective turn 2 was a big deal. His adversity to letting his models get dazed lead to a blowout in the last turn.
He activates Groot and walks to the back before he heals and stands there like a target.
So Redskull had to start. The grunts put down Groot. Then Redskull tried to kill Thanos, and did 2 on the first counting blank attack and got the push trigger, so I did it again but didn't do any damage on the second attack but another push trigger left him far away from me.
So I have to kill a model or I lose. I go for Groot, but two 6 dice attacks don't get the 7 damage needed so Thanos just dazes Ironman and scores out the game.
Sam starts the round by putting down Beast and pushing Voodoo away from me. Then he charges to the right point but fails to deal more damage to Voodoo.
Modok once again has nothing to do expect for hitting Hulk. Which he does really well, doing about 10 damage into Hulk. Leaving Hulk feeling unsafe.
This leaves me in a position where if I daze Thanos I win the game. So I Avengers Assemble up Sam, then I Ricochet Blast and Helios laser Thanos and I daze him. Which lets me score out 16-8
My opponent went all in for the 8 dice attack into Red Skull which at that point had a 62% chance to daze him and sure it's likely but marvel dice are marvel dice and you always have to have a back up plan but yeah it's so easy to tilt when you're in a bad matchup facing a good opponent and then the dice don't help you out. The difference between dealing 0 and 5 doesn't really matter.
Modok not being on the middle was a large problem for my opponent. When you have these turret models you have to make sure they're relevant on the mission because they do not want to take movement actions.
Game 3
Third game we get the Pork Roll Protocol and no one in our team has really played against Convocation so I get them. I get prio and pick my secures since I don't really like demons down town without voodoo in my list. I get Cosmic Invasion he pulls Skrulls Infiltrate. So he ends up picking between 16 and 20 and goes for 20 since my 16 is really strong into Wizards.
20 is Sam, Ironman, Hulk, Red Skull 2 and since it's a spread scenario I prefer Luke over Shuri.
He picks Ancient one, Magik, Strange, Voodoo, and Shang Chi
I start with Sam picking up my Skrull and going back to my home Invasion.
He picks up with Strange and goes back.
I pick up the right Skrull with Luke who gets pushed. Which is bad news.
He picks up the left Skrull with Ancient One who also gets pushed. So atleast the world is fair.
Hulk then jumps up and puts two fits into Ancient one, 5 damage. Then I throw her into the truck which leaves my opponent in a hard spot because if he braces Ironman can take her out and pick up, and then he doesn't have brace for next turn. So he decides to accept death. Which means Hulk gets a Skrull and isn't pushed.
Dr Voodoo walks up, puts a builder into Luke, and gets 1 damage, and the sap doesn't do anything because I have no power which leaves him with not enough to steal my Skrull but he tosses Luke into the barrels close to Shang Chi.
Then Ironman double walks over to the left point.
Magik joins Ironman on his point.
Redskull and his grunts stand on the right point, and I burn avengers assemble to get Luke Cage back to the right point and Hulk onto the left.
Shang Chi feels a bit robbed of his play, so instead he just double runs towards Sam to threaten him next turn.
Meaning the round ends 6-2
Ironman, Hulk and Strange were pushed by points.
Seems like I forgot to take a picture here.
Ironman started the turn with Helios Laser into Ancient one. Taking her off the table.
Voodoo killed the Grunts and then stole from Luke, didn't get pushed and walked to his back point.
Luke was happy on his point
Magik put some damage into Ironman.
Red Skull pooped out new grunts, who shot Shang Chi and did a damage. Since he bumped away from me Red Skull didn't really have any targets so he just stood on the point.
Dr Strange double walked forward then ported forward Shang Chi.
Sam didn't feel safe on his back point anymore so he double walked to the left point.
Shangchi now felt homeless so he walked and charged to the right secure and failed to kill the grunts but pushed Red Skull off the point.
Hulk walked over to my home point and took it. ending the turn 11-5
Shangchi and Luke was pushed by the objective that's why they're standing in the middle of nowhere.
Magik felt threatened by the Ricochet blast combo so she put down Ironman and spiked a spender into Sam, putting him down as well.
Which lead to Redskull using the leadership to walk into position. Where he tried to put down Voodoo but horribly failed with two attacks.
Then Shangchi went and pushed everyone away from the right secure.
Luke walked backtowards the point but couldn't make it after all the pushes.
Dr Voodoo felt like it was bad to give Red Skull power so he just stood there.
Hulk, walked jumped tossed the car into Magik and put an attack into her which left her on one.
Finally Strange put Red Skull into the corner and double walked over to my home Secure.
Leaving me scoring 1 for 12-11
But Sam decides that enough is enough, and he charges and spenders into Dr Voodoo, doing the one damage needed there, then he places back, tosses a shield into Magik and does the one damage needed there, before he picks up a Skrull and takes a victory lap.
Shang Chi Dazes Luke, which lets Red Skull walk up.
Red Skull poops out some grunts who walks to the back point before he contests the right point.
Strange realizes that wherever he goes Hulk just walks after him and tosses him off. So the game is over there.
Since I don't need to do anything I just end the game 16-14.
Then I had to sit for 45 minutes as my teammates were playing their hearts out but finally David clutched the last game and we were 3-0 on day one and we sent the last American hope packing.
Game 4
There were some soft teams at 3-0 this year since a lot of the harder teams had knocked each other out early this year. Which meant it was time to get an easy round under the belt... Oh wait not for us though since we got Italy, who had just knocked out 51% which were the clear favorites in my mind.
At the WTC I didn't want to play against X-men since i lost my tech pieces against them but I also didn't want to play against Diomlord. For people that aren't aware, Diomlord knocked me out in the semifinals of the TTS league 12 and then knocked me out again out of the TTS Europe Season 13. His style of playing Thanos is rough for me because he goes for a lot of attacks and certain of them spike and that just happens, but it makes the whole game chaotic and I don't perform well when I can't visualize the plan of the game from turn to turn. So of course the pairing process ends with me getting Diomlord. My teammates really do trust me to play better than even the best players in the world. I guess that's what I deserve for being cocky about going 5-0 last time around.
He gets prio and picks his secures gets Gamma, and I get Paranoia, so I pick 16, which is Ironman, Redskull 2, King T and Sam.
He plays Rocket, Thanos, Groot, and Starlord.
He starts with Starlord picking up the outside Paranoia.
I pick up the left Paranoia with Ironman.
He double walks up Groot and picks up a Paranoia.
Grunts walk up stands on my Gamma and shoots Groot, doing a damage. Then Redskull walks up, cuts to count blanks and strikes Groot. Doing a total of 4 damage, leaving Groot on 1 since he took the damage from the Paranoia.
Thanos Space stone, walks up and moves Groot back to safety, before he picks up a Paranoia. Then he does a 5 dice yellow attack into Redskull and I have nightmares because last time this happened he did 6 damage into my Thanos, but luckily the dice are kind to me and he doesn't do any damage. Then Groot plays his healing card which heals him and Starlord.
Sam then walks up and puts a shield into Thanos to gain a power and to hope to bounce into Rocket but ends up doing 2 damage.
Which lets Rocket walk up and shoot Redskull with a deaths decree attack. Doing 3 damage
Then King T walks up and pulls Thanos off the middle point doing another point of damage into Thanos.
The turn ends 2-5 but I've gotten a lot of good damage into my opponent.
Gamma deals 1 to Thanos, Starlord and Ironman.
So Thanos starts and dazes King T in one attack. Casually doing 7 damage on 6 dice against 4 defense. Which then lets him build enough power to do Power of the Cosmos and push half my team away. He also dazes Sam so I can't Ricochet Blast Thanos as planned. Oh well. This game is so much fun.....
A good old saying in this game is when you're losing make sure you lose less, so I run Ironman back to my home point and hide away the rest of my characters, while since everyone is so far away from him I don't really have to be afraid of him killing me more.
I pass
Starlord double runs back to the back point and hides from the danger.
So I activate Redskull, Poop out the grunts who do 1 to Groot, then RedSkull walks up and does a count blank strike into Groot to daze him but I leave him on 1 again but at least I get the trigger this time so I push him off the middle.
So Rocket shoots Redskull in cover and does 3 damage in two shots leaving Redskull on 1.
Ending the turn 10-5
So Redskull had to start. The grunts put down Groot. Then Redskull tried to kill Thanos, and did 2 on the first counting blank attack and got the push trigger, so I did it again but didn't do any damage on the second attack but another push trigger left him far away from me.
Feeling like Thanos was a safe distance away from everything, my opponent activated Rocket and did a spender to kill Redskull. My leadership trigger moved up King T, then rocket did a deaths decreed normal attack into King T in cover dealing 2 damage. I do a counter strike and do 1 back.
So it was time for me to go for it. King T jumped towards Thanos, then did a spender into him. Getting the 2 damage needed. Then I took my free medium move towards his back point and did 8 dice reroll 2 into Starlord but I only do 4 and leave him on 1.
So Starlord walks out 3 to avoid the counter strike range on King T, then does a hit and run spender moving him back to the point. He deals 3 damage into King T.
Sam charges up to the middle and shoots rocket, doing a damage and pushing him outside of Gama to daze him. Finally I shoot Starlord and do the 1 to Daze him.
Ironman has nothing to do so he just stands on his point and is happy.
Ending the turn 12-10
This is where I screw up and make the biggest mistake possible. I forget to play Survival on King T. That's the kind of mistake you're not allowed to make when you're fighting on the top stage against the best opponents and the dice are against you.
So the rat walks up does the Dealdly Duo and kills Sam with a deaths decree, does 2 damage into Redskull2. Then he shoots King T and does nothing. I counterstrike and do 2. Then he spenders into King T and does the 2 he needs. I feel like the game is more or less over at that point but no one remembers a quitter.
The grunts activate and shoot into Groot dealing 2 damage. Then Redskull kills Rocket, picks up a thing and walks to the back gamma.
Starlord walks up and blasts into Ironman with a deaths decreed spender. I sack it into Redskull and his dice poop out on him and he only does 2 damage.
I pass.
Groot is out of range of everything so he just runs to the middle and heal.
Then Ironman goes and double shoots into Starlord, putting him down.
Then Thanos walks up. Shoots an 8 dice energy spender into Redskull, needing 4 damage or he just loses. Which he gets.
So the turn ends 14-13
There were so many times the dice could've been just a little nicer to me and that game would've been so simple but also that was a matchup I didn't want because Diomlord just has my number. I had the hope that my teammates had won this game without me since they threw me under the buss, but nope they let me down and we lost this round 2-3.
Not playing Survival is going to haunt me for the next year. It would've been such a free game. I just put down Starlord or Groot before they get to do anything and I'm home free in that game.
Watching Italy squeak by us like that felt horrible but yeah we fall down so we can get back up again. You don't become a champion if you can't overcome setbacks.
Game 5
Being 3-1 meant we were back in the danger zone. There were a lot of dangerous teams that has lost to something random happening to them. So of course we pulled the number one most dangerous team in the tournament. 51% affiliated.
We won prio and forced them to put out first. They put out their Cabal Black Order player, and we put down myself and our Cabal player. They picked to play the mirror which is obvious since I will crush that matchup.
So then they place their X-men and webs player on me. Which I want to snap pick their Webs player since I'm just better at playing that matchup. But instead my team puts me into X-men because they don't respect my dodges thinking I'm just better than my opponent. So with my list without all the tech I have to face X-Men. Yay!
This since they wanted to jump on the Webs player with Midnight Sons and X-men, while they felt like they didn't have any good lists left to jump on the X-men player and I can respect that but damn does it feel bad to go from the one person I wanted to dodge into a matchup where all my tech was stolen from me last minute.
I'm not at all bitter <.< >.> Nope nope. Not me <.< >.>
Oh well I get X-Men and it's time to roll some dice. The priority roll against X-men is the most important roll of the whole game since he is very favored on pay to flips and we run the same extracts. So I'm very happy when I win the roll and pick my secures. I draw Scoundrels. He gets Paranoia.
He picks 16 threat and we're off with the classic.
He plays Lizard, Storm, Voodoo, Beast, X-23.
I start with the grunts and Red Skull walking to the middle. Picking up the paranoia without taking damage.
He picks up the right Paranoia with X-23.
I pick up the middle Paranoia with Sam.
Lizard picks up the left paranoia.
I pass
He just walks up Storm and takes a pot shot into the grunts. Randomly doing the 3 damage on 4 dice into 2 dice with cover. Which lets him toss Sam into the open arms of Dr Voodoo. So yeah that's bad. Voodoo is going to steal my thing, and I lose my pal point because the grunts died. Which means I can't have King T just bullying Lizard on that flank as I had planned.
Ironman double walks to the front of my F to body block away beast from contesting my point.
Then Dr Voodoo does 2 attacks and gets enough power to steal Sams thing.
I feel like I need to get a crazy spike back to be in this game. So King T walks up, jumps to the middle and hits Storm with 8 dice yellow. Doing 3 damage which is good but not enough in this situation. I also pull her to the middle where I can kill her next turn.
Beast needs to stand next to someone to get the pal point so he picks Dr. Voodoo and does an attack into Sam dealing a couple of points of damage. Leaving Sam on 1.
Ending the round 4-5
So yeah. Sam needs to go because I can't afford to go down activations. So he tosses a shield into Voodoo to get him away but does no damage. Then he does a spender into Storm which gets Xavier Dreamed.
Storm doesn't feel safe in the middle so she tries to shock King T which fails. Then she just walks back to the right point.
King T jumps in and tries to kill Voodoo to get back my extract but it gets sacced into Beast. I do 3 damage into Beast. Then I do a spender into Beast to get him down, and I do 2 and the throw into Storm which gets braced. So I take my free medium move to his right point.
He double walks Beast to his left Scoundrel and tosses King T off it.
I pass
Lizard walks over to my back point.
I poop out my grunts and walk them to my back point before RedSkull walks up and does a strike into Beast but fails to do the one but gets the trigger to walk myself to my back point.
Voodoo walks up to the middle.
I walk up Ironman and avengers assemble him to the middle and King T to the left point. Then I shoot Voodoo off the middle.
X-23 double walks to the middle to contest that point for me.
Ending the round 7-10
Sam starts the round by putting down Beast and pushing Voodoo away from me. Then he charges to the right point but fails to deal more damage to Voodoo.
Voodoo walks up and does a spender into King T but I sacc it into Sam, which kills sam and triggers the leadership on King T letting King T walk to the middle.
King T then bounds into the middle and puts 8 dice yellow into X-23. Dealing no damage. Then he does a spender into X-23. Dealing no damage. So yeah.... That's great... Just great... So awesome Dice. I'm so happy with you.
X-23 double runs away from me.
X-23 double runs away from me.
RedSkull2 puts down Lizard.
Storm runs to my back point.
Ironman walks to Voodoos point.
Ending the turn 11-14
I forgot to take another picture but truthfully the game is over so I don't have any interest in arranging it in TTS. I lost to the turn one roll and my dice didn't want to help me out to get back into the game.
Game 6
In the last game we get Austria and I get to play against their Asgard player, Erich who plays Asgard like I do, with pay to flips. I think I and Erich first met in 2014 in the European Master in Warmachine where he knocked me out in the semifinals in the mirror matchup. Which shocked me since I thought I was the best Legion of Everblight player in the world and I had teched especially for the mirror but I still got stomped.
Our teams then played against each other at the WTC and I dodged him which has let him shit talk me for a couple of times. Then last year I shit talked him back and he dodged me because I would've won with my webs list against his Starlord Thanos bullshit.
So this year when I threw down the gauntlet again I thought Erich would dodge me again but he accepted the challenge and took the smackdown to the face.
Erich won prio and picked his secures and got Portals. I drew my Senators. Which is a great scenario pull for me against Asgard. I pick 19 threat since that's the second weakest point for Asgard only after 16. While it's a strong point for me in this list.
I get Redskull 2, Hulk, Ironman, Okoye, and Sam against Jane, Taskmaster, Loki2, Toad, and Hela.
He starts with Toad picking up his right Senator.
Sam walks up, picks up my right Senator and toss a shield into Toad with Sam, getting no damage but free power is nice.
Hulk flips my point, then he double walks to Erichs middle senator
Loki then flips his Portal and walks up and picks up my Senator.
Ironman walks up and puts a shot into Loki but does no damage.
Jane then walks up and flips the left portal but rolls a skull so is ported off it.
The grunts then double walks up and flips back the point before Redskull walks up and picks up the Senator and cuts himself to count blanks and puts 3 damage into Taskmaster
Then Hela flips her point but doesn't roll a skull.
So Okoye takes her 50/50 flip but fails it.
Ending the round 5-5
Loki starts the turn with putting down Sam. Which triggers the leadership on Hulk, who walks over to Toad. Loki then does a spender and walks Hulk back but Loki fails to damage Ironman and Redskull.
Hulk jumps over to Toad and tosses a size 3 into him which gets braced but then Hulk spikes his next attack and does 5 damage into Toad. Then Hulk walks to his home point and flips it.
Taskmaster doesn't feel safe in the middle of the board so he tosses a shield into the grunts dealing no damage and then walks away.
Okoye doesn't feel safe next to Hela, so she walks away and picks up Sams Senator.
Since I have grunts in play my opponent passes away priority
Ironman activates and tries to push Loki away from Sam for next turn but fails to get the wild.
Jane puts down the grunts and walks over to toss the house away before she flips the point.
Redskull poops out the grunts who walk over to the right point but fail the 1 in 4 to get it. Then Redskull tries to hurt Loki and does 3 damage in two attacks and no push triggers so I can't get him away from Sam.
Hela walks over and picks up Toads dropped Senator.
Ending the Turn 10-10
So I flip ricochet blast and put the damage into Hela. Somewhere along the line Erich must have used a soul as power because Hela got 1 power too much on her card but she got a soul too little so he thinks he only has 2 souls and then feels like he has to use Odins Blessing to keep Hela standing. So I think if it's worth to flip Avengers Assemble and Helios to kill Hela but I decide it's not worth it. So I instead flip Helios to put down Loki. Which costs a lot of power but puts him in the dirt.
Toad picks up Lokis Senator and hits Sam but doesn't kill Sam.
Redskull tries to put down Toad but the dice fails haven't stopped so I don't kill him.
Jane walks and charges into Ironman and does the needed couple of points before she flips the point.
Sam tries to kill Toad but fails so he charges over to the right point and tries again but fails again. He flips it but rolls a skull so gets placed back into the middle.
Hela puts down Redskull.
Okoye walks over does a damage into Jane and puts50/50 flips the point but fails it and rolls a skull to be placed out of the game.
Taskmaster has nothing really to do so he waddles around and puts a shield into the grunts, killing them
Hulk has nothing better to do, so he puts an attack into Hela, dazing her and pushing her away. Then he walks down to my home point and tosses Jane of it before he flips it.
Ending the turn 15-13. This was the turn where I was supposed to end the game but Toad being a superstar meant the game kept going.
Sam then bullies Toad who finally dies. I pick up the Senator and run to the corner.
Jane puts down Ironman and flips that point.
Redskull uses the leadership to get into position and then kills Jane while placing the Grunts on the right point to make it harder to flip that.
Taskmaster helplessly walks over and stands on his point.
Okoye walks up and flips the point.
Hela flips two points.
In that game state my Erich has nothing left to activate and I'm currently score 3 while he only scores 4 Which isn't good enough since I got a 2 point lead. So I just end the game 18-17.
Then I have to walk around for an hour waiting for my teammates to end their games.
Conclusion
4-2 wasn't the result I was hoping for not personally or for the team. I feel like my teammates trusted my abilities a bit too much and put me into matchups that I didn't want without us really getting anything substantial out of it in the matchup process. I guess that's an issue with me stomping everyone in our practice games.
At the same time if the dice were a bit kinder to me against Diomlord then we might be world champions at this point. The only team I felt like we weren't favorites against was 51% and they were knocked out of the running at that point.
Thank you to all my opponents for clean fun games, also thank you to all the people I've met over Table Top Simmulator who came over to say hi. The WTC is a lovely time and I hope to see more people there next year.
